Whole Genome Amplification
There are many reasons why DNA may be limited, for example;
The original quality or quantity of starting material may have been poor or the collection processes were not
ideal
It’s possible that no DNA studies were planned at the time of tissue/blood collection, therefore only small
amounts of blood were collected from each patient or only non-invasive isolation procedures were used at the time of collection (eg, heel pricks)
Only small samples such as cancer biopsies and needle aspirates are available
Samples may be degraded due to clotted samples, poor blood draw or simply a broken tube or a freezer
breakdown
Samples from clinical, adverse drug reaction studies or tissue bank collections have been depleted
Only serum samples are available. Extraction of sufficient good-quality DNA from serum is difficult
