Affymetrix GeneChip® Microarray Analysis

Description

Affymetrix GeneChip® arrays are high-density oligonucleotide microarrays. They are manufactured using a photolithographic technology with up to 500,000 oligos being synthesised on a single chip. This system allows you to measure the relative concentration of a DNA or RNA sequence in a complex mixture of nucleic acids.

Application

GeneChip® arrays can be used for the following applications :

• To monitor global mRNA abundance in a range of species e.g. human, mouse, rat, Drosophila, yeast, Arabidopsis and E.coli;
• To identify genes that are uniquely expressed in samples of normal or diseased tissue;
• To investigate changes in gene expression associated with environmental or other changes;
• Identify putative functions for uncharacterized ESTs;
• Identify gene expression ‘fingerprints’of efficacy and toxicity.

• Affymetrix GeneChip® Scanner 3000 provides an image of the array during scanning and automatically stores high resolution fluorescence intensity data.
• GeneChip® software analyses the results which we despatch on CD-R in industry standard formats.
