Identifying I.M.A.G.E. IDs

How do I find the I.M.A.G.E. ID ?

The I.M.A.G.E. IDs are 5 to 7 digit numbers with NO preceding letter, which can be obtained from database searches.

The I.M.A.G.E. ID is found in different places in different databases:

In early dbEST entries, the I.M.A.G.E. CloneID is the number given in the "CloneID" field.

In early GenBank and EMBL entries, the I.M.A.G.E. CloneID is the number on the "/clone=" field in the Features listing. The same number may appear in the Source field, following "human clone=", and on the Definition line following the word "clone".

Examples of the GenBank and EMBL entries for the accession number w33426 (=I.M.A.G.E. CloneID 352061).

More recently database entries give the I.M.A.G.E. ID in the Clone Id field clearly labelled e.g. IMAGE:352061 (3'). [NB. Do not include 3' or 5' when ordering the clone].

Please note that if the I.M.A.G.E. CloneID is not apparent and if there is no mention of the I.M.A.G.E. Consortium in the database entry then it is NOT an I.M.A.G.E. clone and Geneservice does NOT have the clone.

8 digit numbers
These clones cannot be ordered directly from us, however, we may be able to obtain them directly from our supplier. Please send these IDs to our enquiries desk, we will first check if they can be obtained and if so, we will order them for our normal clone charge, plus an Admin charge of 25 pounds per clone.

If users wish to translate I.M.A.G.E. Consortium clone IDs to obtain the clone names, they can use the I.M.A.G.E. Translate utility. If users have already received clones from us, and wish to convert the clone names back to I.M.A.G.E. IDs they can use this Plate Conversion Utility.

Mammalian Gene Collection clones.

MGC clones must be ordered using the I.M.A.G.E. ID NOT the MGC ID.

e.g. MGC clone ID 5998
Order using the I.M.A.G.E. ID 3487600

Our in-house database automatically identifies the MGC plate that contains this clone (in this case AV12-C5). The clone is then streaked out from the MGC plate IRAV 12, not the original I.M.A.G.E. plate that contained this clone.

Our MGC Finder is provided to enable you to obtain all the current information on an MGC clone.
