Important information on requesting clones from LANL cosmid libraries:

The LANL libraries exist both in a 96-well plate and a 384-well plate format, and it is essential that there is no confusion in the databases (e.g. GDB) between clones identified from these different formats. It has been decided that all databases will continue to be in the 96-well format, so that there is no ambiguity in the identity of LANL clones.

The LANL libraries now at Geneservice were obtained in a 384-well format in June 1996. Prior to that time they only existed in the 96-well format. Consequently all database entries and publications are in the 96-well format.

Therefore, when requesting clones identified as a result of screening our filters, please regard the clone co-ordinates as code names only. When we receive your request we will translate your code names into the correct clone names (i.e. the 96 well coordinates) which should be used in all publications and database entries.

For the same reason, it is essential that you always tell us how the clone you requested was identified, so that there can be no ambiguity about the clone ID. Please make sure that you always complete the section on our request form asking for this information.

If users wish to convert from 96 to 384 well coordinates (and vice versa), they can use this utility.
