Mouse Genome Encyclopedia DNABook™
Over 60,000 full-length mouse cDNA clones (FANTOM2) are available from the DNABook™. These are derived from 246 separate cDNA libraries. FANTOM2 clones have a mean fragment size of 1.9Kbp with a maximum size of 12.3Kbp. The clone set covers 90% of known worldwide clones and represents the most extensive of condensed mouse sets available.
RIKEN full-length cDNA clones
Full-length cDNA was collected using the Cap-trapper method and a series of full-length cDNA technologies. Sequences were determined using the high-throughput RISA sequencing pipeline. Quality checks were implemented by re-sequencing all of the clones. Derived sequence data for FANTOM2 clones are available in both DDBJ and Genbank databases.
All FANTOM2 clones are provided in the DNABook™.
This resource forms an easily transportable bank of DNA, printed on paper and bound as a book. DNA can be readily recovered from the paper using PCR and/or transformation. See Kawai J and Hayashizaki Y. (2003) "DNA Book" Genome Res. 13:1488-95.

History of The Mouse Genome Encyclopaedia Project
RIKEN initiated the mouse genome encyclopaedia project in 1995, at a time when genomic science was gaining prominence in the world of research. Focusing on mouse full-length cDNA, RIKEN had two main aims:
- To develop and establish a series of technologies and analytical systems to be known as full-length cDNA technologies and the RISA (RIKEN Integrated Sequence Analysis) system to create an overview of the mouse transcriptome.
- The second aim was to establish the Mouse Genome Encyclopaedia using the RISA system. The following bio-resources were instigated for all of the mouse transcripts. Clone /sequence banks, plus a functional annotation database for all mouse full-length cDNAs.
- See Carninci P et al (2003) "Targeting a complex transcriptome: the construction of the mouse full-length cDNA encyclopedia" Genome Res. 13:1273-89.
